"friends are honest and open with each other" :) :)))))))))))))))))) i'm gnawing on this vn like a chewtoy
cronch chronch, i hope it tastes good :))))
"Maybe even monsters have feelings. But that doesn't make them human."
i have many things i want to compliment on this one. first, the aesthetic is absolutely banger: i love the simplistic main menu, the eerie music, the strange bg, the blue creature with its yellow eyes. it's right up my alley. i fell in love with it at first sight.
second, the story. it's very relatable. i feel we are used to toxic friendship dynamics being represented as jealously, envy -- with abusive wording and people that are clearly fake. but in here, creature looks apparently like someone trying to work things out -- "You should have just told me if you didn't like it" -- and a victim -- "You just chose not to trust me anymore". But it's all an act. Even if it says it is open to discussion, it hides behind the "I didn't know better, I'm just a creature" mentality and blames its friend for everything. In the end, the problem is always the other people. It says it is open to discussion, but if it discusses creature's flaws, it's not a discussion anymore -- it turns into an accusation, and a very "unfair" one at that. i've been there and it absolutely sucks. i'm very happy with how it is represented here, very realistically.
i also like both endings and how they feel like. one is to choose to see creature as a "friend" -- and realize you fear it. how trauma conditioned you to fear someone that was supposed to make you feel comfortable. the other one, "monster", is not only realizing the damage creature has been doing, but also acknowledging it suffers with it too. but more than just being empathetic with it, the main character sets a boundary. empathy without boundaries is just self-destruction.
i really liked this game. really really really. its definitely entering my favorites. thank you for this. take care.
so glad you liked the aesthetics so much! my main goal this jam was to have a little 2 day art-project time
i kind of let the writing just happen without thinking too much of the message (even tho i did have a semi-clear view of what i wanted to say) with this. i had a vision and was unsure if it came across propely so im so glad to see that you got it, that you got role the creature. your thoughts on it actually made my own understading more clear to me in some ways :’)
thank you so so much for taking your time to write out your thoughts this extensively! it means a lot and im so glad you liked this strange creation of mine.
